Whether you want to create lamps to hang, or instead you want to create a table lamp , all you will need is the floral fabric and very few other things that in the closet of those who love the do-it-yourself surely can not miss. Let’s enjoy together, therefore, to create very nice lamps with floral themes, romantic and dreamy in pastel tones or colorful and vivid for the children’s bedroom: the important thing is to have imagination and creative spirit, and above all have fun making with your hands accessories furnishing for the home that will be unique and unrepeatable, just like you!

  • floral fabric
  • needle, thread and pins
  • dressmaker’s scissors
  • a pencil (or a seamstress chalk)

First of all, get everything you need, so you have it right away when you need to use it. Not many things will be needed: first of all the floral fabric. Choose the one that suits you best, or maybe recycle leftovers from other projects, or even old floral dresses that you no longer wear. You will then need a pair of scissors (preferably a dressmaker because they will make the cut of the fabric easier and smoother), needle, thread and pins and a pencil.

Depending on the lamp you want to cover (of which, therefore, you already own the supporting structure in iron or wood), you will have to cut out the fabric of the appropriate shape. In case you do not already have a lampshade, but you want to give vent to your imagination by creating one of your own, you can do it simply with wire (not too thin but still enough to bend it, maybe helping with pliers) and not forgetting to incorporate the bulb for the light bulb (available in any hardware store or electrical equipment store) and fastening it to the structure. Once this is done, the shape that you will have to cut out in your fabric must be suitable for covering the entire structure. Lay the fabric on the reverse side of the structure and with a pencil (or better still, a piece of chalk) trace its edges, without forgetting to create also the upper hole of the lamp, the one from which the light can expand. Now spread the fabric on the work surface and cut it along the marked signs leaving an outer margin of about 3-4 cm (will be the edges for the seam). You may have to make small bends or rouges, depending on the shape of your lamp and your skill and dexterity.

Once the fabric shape has been cut out, lay it straight down on the lamp frame and fix the edges of the fabric by bending the excess margin inwards, around the iron rods (or wood) of the structure. Try to keep the fabric taut and if you need to create small bends (always from the inside) to be fixed with pins, so that the fabric is stretched in every point and perfectly adherent to the structure. At this point you will have to sew the edges: you can use the same color thread of the fabric, or a contrasting color, or even the transparent nylon thread is not too thick so that the seam is completely invisible. With the needle and thread handmade, the seam, with great patience and removing from time to time all the pins.
